What should a bathroom quote template include?

A bathroom refit has more moving parts than most jobs: several trades, products with long lead times, and a room the customer cannot use while you work. A clear bathroom quote breaks the job into stages so the customer can see what they are paying for. The template above starts with example lines for:

  • strip-out of the old suite and tiles, and disposal of the waste;
  • first fix plumbing, and any electrical work such as lighting or an extractor fan;
  • boarding, plastering and making good;
  • supply of the suite, shower or bath, and tiles, with the model numbers in the notes;
  • wall and floor tiling, measured in square metres;
  • second fix, sealing and a final clean.

Every price box is blank. Add your own prices, delete the lines you do not need, and add lines for anything else, such as underfloor heating or a heated towel rail. Use the free site survey checklist on the first visit so nothing is missed when you price it.

What are the common mistakes on a bathroom quote?

  • Not saying who supplies what. If the customer buys their own suite or tiles, say so, and say whether you guarantee them.
  • Vague tiling. Say which walls are tiled, to what height, and whether the tiles are supplied by you. A customer who expected floor-to-ceiling tiling will not be happy with half height.
  • No allowance for what is under the old floor. Rotten boards and old pipework are common. Say how you will handle them before you find them.
  • Missing exclusions. Decorating, moving a soil stack, or work outside the bathroom should be listed as not included unless you are doing it.
  • No timings. Give a start date and how long the room will be out of use, and say that product lead times can move it.

How does VAT work on a bathroom quote?

If you are VAT registered, most domestic bathroom refits are standard rated, so most lines use 20%. Some work for a disabled person can be zero rated: GOV.UK says qualifying disabled people are not charged VAT on products designed or adapted for their own use, or on installing them, and this can include building work such as installing a toilet. The customer must confirm in writing that they qualify. Set those lines to 0% and keep the signed declaration with the job.

If you are not VAT registered, you must not charge VAT: set every line to 0% and leave your VAT number off. To check the VAT and deposit on a price, use the free VAT and deposit calculator. This is general guidance, not tax advice.

What happens after the customer accepts the bathroom quote?

Record the work on site with the free job sheet template, order the products with the purchase order template, and send the bill with the free invoice template. For other jobs, the general quote template has the same layout with blank lines.

When you are retyping the same products on every quote, IBIOS Quote Studio reads a supplier PDF or a photo of a handwritten form into quote lines in about 60 seconds, then matches them to your own products, and the customer can accept online. See how IBIOS works for bathroom retailers.

Frequently asked questions

Is this bathroom quote template free?
Yes. The bathroom quote template is free, with no sign-up. It starts with example lines for a typical bathroom refit; change or delete them, add your prices, then print it or save it as a PDF.
What should a bathroom quote include?
Each stage of the job on its own line (strip-out, waste, plumbing, electrics, boarding, tiling, fitting), who supplies the suite and tiles with model numbers, tiled areas in square metres, VAT, the deposit, what is not included, the start date and how long the room will be out of use.
Why are there no prices in the example lines?
Bathroom prices vary with the room, the products and where you work, so every price box is left blank for you to fill in. The totals stay at zero until you add your own figures.
Do I charge VAT on a bathroom refit?
If you are VAT registered, most domestic bathroom refits are standard rated. Some adaptations for a disabled person’s own use can be zero rated when the customer qualifies and confirms it in writing. If you are not VAT registered you must not charge VAT. Check HMRC guidance or an adviser for your own jobs.
How do I deal with problems found during strip-out?
Say in your terms that hidden problems, such as rot or old pipework, will be explained and priced before any extra work starts. The example terms in the template already include a line for this.
Should I attach certificates to a bathroom quote?
The quote should say who carries out any electrical or gas work. Attach any certificates your trade requires when the job is finished, and keep copies with the job record.
Is there a general quote template for other jobs?
Yes. The free quote template has the same layout with blank lines, for any trade or service.
